There is a stunning variety to Ravel's musical output, and the wealth of compositional ideas is well archived on the present disc performed by the Montreal Symphony conducted by Charles Dutoit. Ravel is one of the most versatile composers of the 20th century; he is a compositional chameleon. His 'Rapsodie espagnole' is truly Spanish and his La Valse smacks of 19th century Vienna. His 'Boléro' which was used in the hit movie "10," is palpably erotic, a fifteen minute crescendo. Fabulously performed.
